Richard Thoma - Vice President
Richard Thoma has been a part of OCSRA for 5–6 years, contributing in multiple roles including refereeing, contacting schools, game assigning, evaluating, and mentoring new referees, as well as recruiting officials to join the association. He played club soccer from the age of five, competed in college, and has continued playing in local and regional leagues. As a referee, Richard has officiated in leagues such as UPSL, MPSL, MUSL, MWPL, MLS Next, UWS, ECNL, and NLC, as well as college and high school matches. He holds a Grassroots Referee certification and a U.S. Soccer D coaching license, and has coached youth through UWS and MPSL men’s and women’s teams. His officiating highlights include assignments to multiple state finals, regional finals, and district finals for both boys’ and girls’ programs. Richard’s goals for OCSRA are to strengthen its foundation, grow community engagement, and set the standard for excellence in referee services. Outside of soccer, he works at Henry Ford Emergency Department, enjoys playing soccer and golf, attending concerts, skiing, snowboarding, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Pietro Loria - Treasurer
Pete Loria has been with OCSRA for over eight years, serving as Treasurer for the past five. He began playing soccer at age 10 and started refereeing at 16, holding an official referee status for the last 17 years. Pete has served as a State Referee, later achieving Regional Referee status for five years, and is now a Regional Emeritus Referee. His officiating career includes State Cup games, professional matches, college fixtures, and high school finals. As a board member, Pete is focused on increasing membership and delivering a quality product for the soccer community. Outside of refereeing, he enjoys traveling—especially to Sicily to visit family and share authentic cultural experiences with friends.

Steve Arends - Referee Recruitment and Mentorship Director
Steven Arends has been with OCSRA for over seven years and currently serves as the Referee Recruitment and Mentorship Director. He played soccer all throughout high school. He has been a USSF-certified referee for more than 13 years, officiating in leagues such as MWPL, MPSL, MUSL, MLS Next, GA, ECNL, and many other youth leagues. He also serves as a Referee Mentor for the Michigan Referee Committee (MRC), where he supports and guides Grassroots Referees in youth and adult competitions through performance observations and on-field analysis, leading educational sessions, directing video analysis sessions among referees and club ownership, and raising officials’ self-development and understanding of the Laws of the Game. Steve is dedicated to referees and their development and is focused within OCSRA on consistently elevating referee IQ and their growth and performance, bringing high-level referees to each match for the schools, and building OCSRA into the preeminent soccer association by recruiting the best officials. Outside of soccer, Steve loves spending time with his family, running, and camping.
